In a commendable move against vandalism, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives in Yobe State have made significant arrests. Six suspected power cable thieves were apprehended in Damaturu, the state capital, for their involvement in stealing armoured cables valued at N1.2 million. The arrest, disclosed by the State Commandant of the Corps, Adamu I. Zakari, sheds light on the ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the region.
According to Zakari, the suspects were caught red-handed behind the Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate in Damaturu. Further investigation linked three additional individuals to the crime, underscoring the organized nature of the operation. Shockingly, the suspects confessed to vandalizing numerous transformers across the Damaturu metropolis, including those at the federal polytechnic and the Ali Marami Extension.
In another instance of community vigilance, residents of Nayi-Nawa Tsallake area demonstrated their commitment to combatting crime by apprehending a 34-year-old individual, Umar Mustapha, from Lawanti ward. Mustapha was caught in the act of vandalizing a substation and promptly handed over to the NSCDC for necessary action.
